Freedom is one of the most deeply felt and often discussed ideas in my diaspora community.
For our elder generations, freedom meant something collective - the right to preserve our nationhood, to practice the Dharma, to protect our culture and language. It was about survival through unity, about finding freedom in togetherness.
For my generation, freedom feels more personal. It's about self-expression, self-respect,the freedom to define who we are as individuals,even within a shared history.
