This moment reminded me of a historic event on May 29, 2011, when His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama formally handed over his political authority to the elected Tibetan leadership. In doing so, he broke a 368-year-old tradition of Dalai Lamas holding both spiritual and political power.
He advised the Tibetan people-through both words and example-that our culture must adapt to time, place, and circumstance. Culture should not remain stagnant; it must evolve to stay alive.
